Aiea Loop Trail

The Aiea Loop Trail, located in the Keaīwa Heiau State Recreation Area, offers a 4.8-mile loop hike with stunning views of O‘ahu’s mountain ranges and Pearl Harbor. The trail winds through lush forests filled with native plants like koa and ʻōhiʻa, creating a serene atmosphere that nature lovers will appreciate. Along the hike, you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas of the coastline and even the H3 Freeway cutting through the mountains, making for unique photo opportunities.

What makes the hike even more memorable is the historical element – about halfway along the trail, you’ll encounter the remains of a B-24 bomber that crashed in 1944, adding a poignant touch to the experience. The trail is moderately challenging, with a gradual incline and a steep switchback towards the end, but the effort is well worth it for the views and the sense of history you’ll encounter. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the path can get muddy after rain, and enjoy this scenic and historical gem on O‘ahu.
