What it's about

The ‘Aihualama Falls, located in the Lyon Arboretum in Mānoa Valley, Oahu, is a stunning 45-foot waterfall nestled in a lush tropical rainforest. The hike to the falls is approximately 2.2 miles round trip, making it an easy-to-moderate hike suitable for hikers of all fitness levels. The trail offers scenic views of diverse plant species, including native Hawaiian flora, and informative signage along the way provides insights into the local ecosystem. The hike culminates at the serene ‘Aihualama Falls, a perfect spot for relaxation and photography.

While the trail is generally well-maintained, it can be muddy, especially after rainfall, so sturdy, water-resistant footwear is recommended. The area is known for a high mosquito population, so it’s a good idea to wear long sleeves, pants, and apply insect repellent. The Lyon Arboretum’s visitor center provides parking, restrooms, and a visitor center at the trailhead. Parking requires a small fee, and spaces can fill up quickly, so early arrival is advised.
