The Bear Canyon to Seven Falls Trail is a prized pathway in the Sabino Canyon Recreation Center, renowned for its stunning vistas leading to the mesmerizing Seven Falls. The falls, a series of waterfalls spilling into natural pools, are the trail’s crowning jewel, framed by a diverse array of desert and riparian scenery that captivates hikers and nature lovers alike. Winding through the scenic Bear Canyon in the Coronado National Forest, the trail presents an ecosystem rich in contrasts, from cacti-strewn deserts to verdant, water-fed greenery around the riparian zones. The Seven Falls are a spectacle of nature, drawing water from Bear Creek and blossoming into full grandeur in spring or after rainfalls. Optimal Visiting Season: The prime time to experience the trail and falls is from October to May, coinciding with the desert’s bloom, adding a splash of vibrant colors to the landscape. While summer brings higher temperatures and flash flood risks, witnessing the falls outside of their peak flow can be a unique experience in itself. Getting to Seven Falls starts at the easily accessible Sabino Canyon Recreation Center, just a drive away from Tucson. Signage will lead you to the Bear Canyon Trail, with options to hike, take a paved road, or hop on a tram ride ($4) to near the trail’s end. The tram operates from 9 a.m., hourly, a detail to remember for your planning. The round trip to Seven Falls is about 8.2 miles and varies from easy to moderate difficulty, including several stream crossings. Always check the latest weather forecasts and trail conditions prior to departure. For this extended hike, don’t forget to bring sufficient water and snacks, and note there’s a modest fee to enter the Sabino Canyon Recreation area.
