Description
The Kalalau Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in Hawaii. The trail runs approximately 11 miles along the island's north shore from the trailhead located at Ke‘e Beach to the Kalalau Valley. The trail has been named one of the most beautiful, and dangerous, hikes of the United States
Along the way, hikers are treated to stunning views of cliffs, waterfalls, and caves. The trail can be challenging in places, but it is well worth the effort. For those who want to extend their hike, there are several campsites along the trail where overnight camping is allowed.
Tips
Permits or Reservations are required for this hike. To complete the first two miles to you only need a day pass Heana State Park. This will allow you to hike up to Hanakāpī‘Ai Beach.
If you want to continue on and complete the rest of the trail (even if you are not planning on camping), you will need to reserve a camping permit.
