Laie Falls, located on the northeastern shore of O‘ahu, offers a scenic and rewarding hike through lush landscapes. The trail spans approximately 7.9 miles round trip and takes about 4 to 5 hours to complete. With an elevation gain of around 1,200 feet, this moderate to challenging hike features steep inclines and uneven terrain. Along the way, hikers are treated to diverse landscapes, including pine forests, exposed ridges, and bamboo-lined cliffs, all offering stunning views.

The journey culminates at the 15-foot Laie Falls, where you’ll find a serene pool beneath the waterfall, perfect for a peaceful break. While the pool may look inviting, it’s recommended to avoid swimming due to water quality concerns, particularly the presence of leptospirosis bacteria in natural water sources. The hike itself offers a variety of scenic vistas and is a great way to experience O‘ahu’s natural beauty.

To access the trail, park at Laie Park, located about half a mile from the trailhead. From there, follow Poohaili Street to reach the trail entrance. Be sure to obtain a permit from Hawaii Reserves Inc. before you go, as it’s required for this hike. It’s very easy to obtain and free. Simply fill out a form, email it to Hawaii Reserves Inc. and they will reply saying you are authorized access.
