Lowell Observatory

Founded in 1894 by Percival Lowell, Lowell Observatory is a research institution located in Flagstaff, Arizona. In 1930, it was here that Clyde Tombaugh discovered the planet Pluto. Today, the Observatory remains at the forefront of planetary science, with a mission to "pursue the study of astrology and to advance knowledge through research and public outreach." In addition to its Pluto-related work, the Observatory is also involved in the search for near-Earth asteroids, and it operates one of the largest private telescopes in the world.
