The Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail is a popular hike on Oahu’s southeastern coast, offering panoramic views of the island’s windward side. The trail is approximately 2 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of about 500 feet, making it accessible to hikers of various skill levels.
Trail Highlights:
Scenic Views: Hikers are treated to stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean, Makapu’u Beach, Koko Head, and the offshore islets of Moloka’i and Lana’i on clear days.
Wildlife Spotting: From November to April, the trail offers opportunities to observe migrating humpback whales.
Historic Lighthouse: At the trail’s end, visitors can view the historic red-roofed Makapu’u Lighthouse, built in 1909. While the lighthouse itself is off-limits to the public, it provides a picturesque backdrop against the deep blue sea.
