Description
The Mogollon Rim (Mo-gee-on) is a 2,000-foot escarpment that runs for 200 miles across central Arizona. The Rim marks the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau, and its towering cliffs provide sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. The Mogollon Rim is home to an abundance of wildlife, lakes, trails, and overlooks. It offers amazing camping in organized sites and dispersed along BLM land. This popular destination is a quick escape from the heat in the summer as the temperature is typically 10-15 degrees cooler than Payson just a 30 minute drive away.
Tips
The weather can change quickly, so be prepared for both cold and hot weather.
Cell phone service is spotty but head towards the edge for the best chance at grabbing a signal.
This is a great place for weather watchers as the rim provides an excellent view point to watch the summer monsoons roll in.
Reservations can be made ahead of time and tend to fill up fast at all of the areas organized campgrounds.
