The geological features of the Hawaiian Islands, including lava tubes, tidal pools, and coastal rock formations, are incredibly diverse.
This lava ledge, which is partially submerged, is 20 feet above the water. Often twice as high, the oncoming tide drowns the rocks before retreating to reveal a string of turbulent tide pools. These pools range in size from a hot tub to a swimming pool, and the largest and best-lit one fills with surging sea water before reshuffling back with the tide.
This is a beautiful site for photographers and on lookers. Do not approach the pools as the waves can be unpredictable.
