Looking for a place to enjoy some dark sky stargazing? Head on over to Oracle State Park in Arizona. This 4,000-acre park is designated as an International Dark Sky Park, meaning that light pollution is kept to a minimum and the land is known for it’s distinguished quality of starry nights. This makes it an ideal spot for stargazing and observing the stars. In addition to its dark skies, the park also offers hiking trails and picnicking areas.
The main entrance gate to the park off Mt. Lemmon Road closes between 4-5 pm depending on the season. For those wishing to stay late and enjoy the night skies of the International Dark Sky Park, plan on parking at the American Avenue Trailhead Parking Lot. No camping is allowed but the lot does not close.
The area is accessible nightly for stargazing, but camping is not allowed -in tent or vehicle- and please no campfires.
Please register at the self-pay station to pay the parking fee of $7 (or $12 after 10 p.m.), or to log your annual state park pass.
