Poipu Beach is really two beaches combined into one, divided by a little spit of sand that runs from the mainland. The endangered Hawaiian monk seals like to take naps in this location. Beginner body boarders choose the section of the beach on the western side. Children may play in the enjoyable area created by the gentle breaking of little waves on the shallow sandbar.
A small swimming location sheltered by lava rocks can be found to the left of the sandbar. This area is great for families with young children.
