Royal Hawaiian Golf Club

The Royal Hawaiian Golf Club, located in Kailua, Oʻahu, offers a unique golfing experience amidst the lush Maunawili Valley, framed by the majestic Mount Olomana and Koʻolau Mountains.

Opened in 1993, the course was initially co-designed by renowned architects Pete and Perry Dye, marking their first collaborative effort. In recent years, golf hall-of-famer Greg Norman undertook a redesign to enhance playability while preserving the course’s challenging nature.

The par-72 course spans 6,609 yards from the longest tees, with a course rating of 73.1 and a slope rating of 138. Golfers encounter a variety of challenges, including forced carries off the tee, bunkers bordered by railroad ties, and fairways that descend into bunkers and ravines. The signature 11th hole features an exquisite pond set deep within the verdant landscape.

Beyond its golfing challenges, the Royal Hawaiian Golf Club is celebrated for its breathtaking scenery, often likened to a ‘Jurassic Park’ setting due to the surrounding royal palms, banana and koa trees, and flowing streams inhabited by Hawaiian fish. The course’s front nine meanders through a jungle-like environment, while the back nine opens up towards the mouth of the valley, offering views of the mountains and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.
