Why is it called Sleeping Giant? Local mythology claims that a giant feasted so much during a party in his honor that he laid down for a nap and never woke up.
There are two ways to get to the top of Sleeping Giant (Nounou Mountain)
1- Sleeping Gian West Trail (AllTrails Link) - 1.7-mile out-and-back trail with great views and relatively easy but steep hike.
2- Sleeping Giant East Trail (AllTrails Link) - 3.4-mile out-and-back trail considered a challenging route that takes 2 hours to complete.
Try to get an early start because the trail can become hot and crowed in the if you start too late in the day.
Enjoy the view; it's unlike anything else in East Kauai, but be cautious at the top because some of the dropoffs are rather steep.
