Description
The Yuma Territorial Prison was opened in 1876 and was in operation for 33 years. The prison was located in Yuma, Arizona, and was used to house prisoners from all over the territory. The prison was designed to hold up to 100 prisoners at a time, but at its peak, it held over 700 prisoners. The prison was known for its harsh conditions and was eventually shut down in 1909. Today, the prison is a National Historic Site and is open to the public for tours.
