Characterized by its dramatic cliffs, towering cottonwoods, and clear rivers, the canyon is a popular destination for hikers, birders, and nature lovers. Aravaipa Creek flows year-round, an unusual phenomenon in the Arizona desert. The area is also home to a number of rare and threatened species, including the American bald eagle and the peregrine falcon. In recognition of its unique values, the Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness was designated as a National Wilderness Area in 1984. Today, it continues to provide an important refuge for wildlife and a place of beauty and peace for all who visit.
